Named in honor of the one thing that every cancer patient hopes for — their disease to be in remission — these musicians want their positive message to highlight the great work Moffitt Cancer Center is doing to fight cancer. That's right; this hospital house band is made up entirely of Moffitt team members who work in a variety of roles, including a security officer, researcher, code nurse, and radiologist. The ReMissions was formed in 2020 after Dr. Patrick Hwu took the helm as president and CEO of Moffitt. When he’s not leading the center, seeing patients or working in his lab, Hwu plays on the keyboard or piano. The band has grown to include six members, plus a few special guest bandmates. The lineup includes:
Dana Ataya, MD - Vocals
Breast Radiologist, Associate Professor
Instruments: Vocals, piano, acoustic guitar, harmonica
Patrick Hwu, MD - Keyboard
President and CEO, Medical Oncologist Researcher
Instruments: Keyboard, piano, guitar and trumpet
Jeff Leighton, RN, CCRN - Bass
Registered Nurse, Intensive Care Unit

James Mulé, PhD - Guitar
Researcher, Associate Center Director of Translational Science
Instrument: Electric and resonator guitar
Ron Zalva - Drums
Security
Instruments: Drums
Mark Robertson-Tessi, PhD - Mandolin

Whether playing a rooftop concert or performing for a crowd of patients and staff, The ReMissions are ready to share their sound with the world.
