Coming by way of Seattle, Washington, The Requisite are a pop punk outfit comprised of Maxwell Royce (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Matt "Big Rig" Houghton (lead guitar, backing vocals), Sam Sperrazza (drums), and Tommy O'King (bass, backing vocals). The band draws influence from notable scene favorites including Taking Back Sunday, Manchester Orchestra, and Jimmy Eat World for an emo-laden sound laced with indie-rock elements.
Though established in 2009 during the pop-punk heyday, The Requisite set their early foundations in the indie folk realm of rock. The transcendence into their current sound occurred in 2016 and was followed shortly thereafter with the release of their transformative EP, The Quiet Terror of Being Alive (2017).
The band started making waves in the scene in 2019 with the release of their sophomore pop-punk EP, Lessons Learned. That same year, they came to share stages in front of sold-out shows with the likes of Capstan, Bayside, Tiny Moving Parts, Northbound, and We The Kings.
With their debut full-length (produced and recorded by Fred Mascherino of Taking Back Sunday, Say Anything, Terrible Things, and The Color Fred) released on Valentine'sDayof 2024, The Requisite have their sights on a continued upward trajectory and marked progression through the year. This latest iteration is marked by pop-leaning arrangements driven by signature emo-rock energy.
