the Retrospects

In November 2023, I packed all my synths and drum machines and took a drive up the Ottawa valley to the most beautiful spectacular studio. Studio Cimitiere. The 1850’s built stone church in Quyon Quebec. It’s impossible to describe the magic of this studio. Equally magical are Mike Dubue and Erin Flynn who live there and run the studio.

I showed up in November with 14 songs, all written in midi, the most amazing of retro music languages. It’s 80’s inspired pop music, nostalgic, feel good, dance party, spiritual belters.

I set up 12 synths and drum machines and pressed play on the sequencer. Mike worked his magic. Using a combination of vintage mic’s and processing gear, re-amping, tape machines, and years of experience, Mike produced this really special record. After the synths and drum machines were laid down I overdubbed guitars, and then vocals. That’s where the spiritual part comes in. Belting out vocals in the hall of the church was an absolutely life changing experience!

This means a lot to me and it’s also the first album I’ve finished since recording the White Wires 3rd album in 2010. I’m super excited to share it with my friends. I’ve put a band together to play it live. It’s a crazy star studded lineup with Sarah, Keltie, Johnny O, and Chad. Here’s the first track. The band is the called the Retrospects, the track is callled Shattered.
