The term "rideout," derived from jazz jargon, evokes the final refrain of a song, while "to ride" suggests travel and overcoming challenges—symbols of The Rideouts' journey. Founded by Trieste native Max Scherbi, the band draws inspiration from legends like <a href="spotify:artist:3WrFJ7ztbogyGnTHbHJFl2" data-name="The Beatles">The Beatles</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:776Uo845nYHJpNaStv1Ds4" data-name="Jimi Hendrix">Jimi Hendrix</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:74oJ4qxwOZvX6oSsu1DGnw" data-name="Cream">Cream</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:36QJpDe2go2KgaRleHCDTp" data-name="Led Zeppelin">Led Zeppelin</a> , blending '60s Anglo-American sounds with pop, rock, blues, garage rock, and touches of psychedelia.
The Rideouts began in 2000 when Scherbi moved to Liverpool, where he collaborated with musicians like <a href="spotify:artist:2XP5cpo28Ckm0AjrTaSsbE" data-name="Garry Christian">Garry Christian</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6ZNGNJuTnqXYKaIQDEAquH" data-name="Ian McNabb">Ian McNabb</a> . In 2003, he formed The Rideouts, recording their first EP in Liverpool. The fifth album, <a href="spotify:album:2iy8EJ3eLcOvqAcKkhEqgP" data-name="The Journey">The Journey</a> (2024) showcases an experimental approach, combining the best of rock, blues and funk, while introducing fresh sounds.
Rumore Magazine:
The opening of this fifth album by the Rideouts, a band led by Trieste native Max Scherbi with a history spanning over twenty years, has a great funk rock vibe, somewhere between Lenny Kravitz and the Black Crowes. Fittingly enough, the second track is called Superfunky Love, and partly due to the title’s similarity and partly because of the excellent horn section, it immediately brings to mind none other than Morphine’s Super Sex.
