In 2020, when Elena Karaytcheva’s car broke down in Marfa, Texas, she had no idea she would spend the next two years learning the way of the desert dog. Nor did she know she would meet that most mysterious of sound slingers, Pebbles von Klee. But their connection was magic and together they hatched The Secret Plan, a powerful blend of word weather and sonic signals that pays homage to psychic insurgents like Arthur Rimbaud and Cecilia Vicuña as much as The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Amyl and the Sniffers. Five years later, The Secret Plan released their debut self-titled EP in which worldly disappointments, personal relationships, and visions of excess have been sifted and shifted into song forms that pulsate with an undertow of chaotic energy. Combining tripped-out guitar riffs, surreal imagery, and dissident panache, The Secret Plan’s music offers something both strange and appealing, like the hypnotic glow of a fire burning in the shadows of reality.
