The Sirens are a band from Lamma Island, Hong Kong. We emerged out of informal acoustic jams and late night harmonising in the street after closing time. Our sound: Erin Sutton brings powerful lead vocals and acoustic guitar, Aleks Softley on fiddle draws from a wide range of genre influences including rock, folk, classical, and bluegrass, Jeni Chesnut-Tangerman plays bass lines and harmony on cello, and Lebo Sesiu rounds off the sound with cajon and percussion. What sets us apart from other Hong Kong bands is our intricate 4-part vocal harmonies and a capella arrangements, which draw from a strong tradition of women's voices in European and North American folk music.
We might best be described as “alternative folk”, but our music is everything from traditional Irish to The Eurythmics, by way of Neil Young, Eva Cassidy, and Amy Winehouse. We tend to lean towards a mysterious, moody sound evocative of our mythological namesakes luring sailors lost at sea.
