The four-piece band — Jo Jo on vocals, Shelby Lynn on guitar, Rainy on drums and Della on bass — make bluesy swamp rock that sits somewhere between Led Zeppelin at their most Southern and Creedence Clearwater Revival at their most unhinged. Slide guitar, harmonica, heavy groove, and lyrics that smell like river mud and bad decisions.
Jo Jo writes the songs, mostly about women and mostly from experience. The results can be funny in the way that things are only funny once enough time has passed — which for Jo Jo is usually about three days, just long enough to find the right chord.
They rehearse in a weathered shack on the edge of the Louisiana bayou. They are always about to get a van. They have been about to get a van for a while now.
The Sloo are not from anywhere you've been. But you'll recognise the place
