The Splatter Trio was a San Francisco-based experimental group active from the late '80s through the mid-'90s. The members were saxophonist Dave Barrett, guitarist/bassist Myles Boisen and drummer Gino Robair, who all occasionally incorporated electronics into the music. The Splatter Trio came together after Barrett saw area musicians Boisen and Robair in John Zorn's Cobra in 1987. In 1990, after a couple of years together, the group's self-titled debut came out. The Splatter Trio recorded four more albums before calling it quits, the last of which was 1995's Hi-Fi Junk Note. In addition to the group's own catalogue (most of which is now on the Rastascan label), the Splatter Trio also appear on independent West Coast label compilations, such as the Racer sampler (Racer Radio, Vol. 1) and the Residents tribute on Vaccination (Eyesore: A Stab at the Residents). 1998 brought a Splatter Trio reunion concert and the release of an album on Limited Sedition called Splatterarities that included material spanning the trio's years together. ~ Joslyn Layne, Rovi
