Auckland rock band The Sun Gods is built upon the tight, hard-hitting rhythm of James Porteous with Konrad Kurta’s anvil-heavy guitar tones and vocals ranging from incisive staccato to broad, soaring melodies.
Born from a fifteen-year-long musical friendship that endured even during extended OEs, The Sun Gods quietly self-released two EPs in 2015 and 2017 while Konrad and James lived in separate countries. Both now back in New Zealand, The Sun Gods entered Roundhead Studios in early 2022 with Scott Seabright (Shihad, Alien Weaponry) emerging with an EP’s worth of material after two electric days.
The resulting ‘Light of Day EP’ gained critical acclaim, with singles ‘Fall in Line’ and ‘Oh Mary Mary’ attracting considerable attention for their polished delivery and creative videos.
2023 saw the band perform a handful of electric live shows, fast earning them a reputation as one of the most dynamic live acts going around. In September the band released the single ‘Cocaine Eyes’, produced by Nate Sowter (Blindspott, Take the Willing) catalogs a bad night out with razor-sharp clarity, and represents a bold yardstick as the band embarks upon their first album with long time friend Phil Pou joining them on bass.
2024 has seen the band busier than ever releasing the single “follow” in march and spending the preceding months working with Sowter once again and recording new music for their debut album. Forthcoming single “Chaos Of The Rain” Is set to be released june 12th
