The Supposed So began in 2011 as a recording vehicle for the music of Michael McGuire. A prolific outpouring of songs would follow in the coming years, finding Michael writing and recording constantly, releasing via Bandcamp on his own imprint Checked Out Records.
Diagnosed with Bipolar I Disorder in his early 20s, Michael spent much of that decade in and out of hospitals, struggling in particular with the manic side of his bipolarity, once finding himself living on the streets of Portland, Oregon, pacing the city without sleeping for weeks. Time spent in Maine, Ohio, and NYC would see him release numerous albums, EPs, and poetry books, while also publishing collections of essays and short fiction. Michael released <a href="spotify:album:0VGnIY8R9duyck94vQLPuk" data-name="Thoughts in the Belfry">Thoughts in the Belfry</a> and <a href="spotify:album:5JLCmOIQjH87M1lfCYgusp" data-name="Just a Bit More, As Always">Just a Bit More, As Always</a> in 2020, each including rearranged and rerecorded versions of previously released songs. His debut novel, The Supposed So: A Fictional Memoir In Five Parts, came out in February 2021, and is the fleshed out version of four previously published novellas and one new one.

Michael recently completed an English degree at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and lives in Worcester with his wife, photographer Allie Tsubota.
