The Travelling Band were never flashy, but always stood out. A group of musicians’
musicians, their gilded songwriting represents a distinctly British form of Americana.
Warming, golden-hued, their four studio albums span a decade, a formative time in their
lives that could never be replicated or forgotten. Now, after some time out, they’re back
– a band renewed, The Travelling Band are able to blend the old with the new, learning
from their mistakes and amplifying their triumphs, while preparing to take on the world
all over again.
New single ‘Super 8 Surrender’ is a bridging point, a path from old to new. The final song written during their initial incarnation, it was penned in just one day as part of the Revolve:R art project. Each member contributed to the lyrics, which were then cut up and pasted together – a style that harks back to the way David Bowie created his lyrics. It’s emblematic of their trust in one another, and their playful creativity. “Listening back to the records, we were never afraid to experiment. We were never afraid to try new things. I think we’re more
decisive now. And you naturally just get better, I think.”
