The Unders were born in the fall of 2014 CE, just south of the “sturdy Goliath” that is the BQE, on Graham Avenue in Brooklyn. The band's original lineup included Michael Zadick (songwriter, rhythm guitar), Ted “The Billy Goat” Beck (lead guitar), and the serendipitous talents of Joey Santa Maria (drums). Embracing a brash, lo-fi/garage rock sound, the trio released their eponymous debut record (aka "The Denim Album") on King Pizza Records in November of our year of the lord 2015. In 2016 Santa Maria switched to his preferred instrument of bass guitar (thus fulfilling his father's only wish: for his son to play bass guitar in a punk rock band) and the group welcomed seasoned drummer, and former model, Tyler Bower (<a href="spotify:artist:3zS2YSwoR0dFeAxr7tFxxC" data-name="¡Vamanos!">¡Vamanos!</a>). With this line up the band began to write and record new songs as a more “adventurous” quartet, entering the studio in late 2016. In early 2017 Beck left the group and The Unders returned to trio status once again. Eventually releasing the <a href="spotify:album:2B1kU20eHGa10FoewO2iSi" data-name="Psychgeist">Psychgeist</a> EP in October of 2017 - to some acclaim. As of 2018 The band's current tunes embrace more repetitious, rhythmic arrangements, while maintaining key elements of their garage rock roots. A new release is expected sometime in 2020.
