The self proclaimed "Basement Rockers" come from a small town outside of Atlantic City, New Jersey. A blend of modern and classic rock influences combine in a multi-genre sampler that creates The Washups unique sound. Playing shows in the South Jersey and Philadelphia area, they have gained a loyal following and work diligently to support the Local DIY Music Community.
Although they went to the same schools since they were in first grade, their first meeting in a musical environment was in songwriting class while in high school. Jay Boyce (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), and Jamie Fortunato (vocals, lead guitar) teamed up to write some of The Washups first songs. In a very short time they realized they needed a drummer. Their first choice, Josh Margulis (Drums) accepted the offer. Their first bassist, Zack Dix, played with them until 2021 when Brad Jones took over on bass.
They released their EP "Better Late Than Never" in November of 2018. In June of 2021 they released their full-length album “Shallow Pockets.” In July of 2025, they amicably decided to bring the band to a close, releasing a self-titled farewell EP and playing one final show in their hometown of ACNJ.
