thegoodnews. is a California based cartoon group founded by partners Del The Funky Homosapien, producer CTZN, rapper Po3 and illustrator Pete Cosmos. The squad would grow to include bass & fx guru Juan Alderete & guitarist/producer Taka Tozawa (both members of the touring lineup for legendary hip hop band Deltron 3030). UK favorite Jam Baxter and California rapper Gee. also appeared on the groups debut EP ‘The Doors’.
In 2023 thegoodnews. surfaced with an Oakland residency, curating a monthly series of art & music events in partnership with art collective PTV and the legendary west coast record store Amoeba Music. The shows featured an array of friends and guests including DJ QBERT, Frak, Mister Stranger (HMZA. x 5iLL), D.U.S.T of Zion I, mars.kumari, umamifunk, Fanatik, The Architect, Cyberclops and DJ HALO, with artworks by Pete Cosmos & a rotating gallery from PTV curated by BROKE & MATH. During the series, the group previewed new tracks live for those in attendance.
In spring 2024, thegoodnews held further editions of their “FUNKTION” and “Beat Suite” events in Oakland and by summer the group reconvened to put the finishing touches on the first of a few new releases. These would mark their first proper full lengths as a group following 2016’s self titled compilation and a series of loose singles.
