A blend of screamo-punk, melodic rock and harsh noise, thejudasobscure is the musical endeavor of Ryan ”Woody” Borowy, based in Waterbury CT. Drawing from varied influences including Jeromes Dream, Bear vs. Shark, the Smashing Pumpkins and Tom Waits, his songs fuse raw honesty and relentless intensity to create a maelstrom of sound and emotion.
thejudasobscure was established in 2017 by Woody as a creative outlet to explore his songwriting abilities. A demo, Banshee, was released in December 2017, followed soon after by the debut full-length Drops of Dew in Mourning. 2018 saw thejudasobscure performing at house shows, bars and music venues across CT, opening for varied regional acts including Intercourse, Ether Coven and Pity Sweater.
2019 began with the release of human:error, a split cassette between thejudasobscure and Glenn VeryClose. A two-song single, “This Night Could Swallow Me Whole,” was released in September 2019, introducing harsh noise elements into his sound and garnering thejudasobscure critical attention and radio play. He released his second full-length album, Charlatan, on Halloween of 2019, with plans to bring the live show across New England and beyond throughout 2020.
