Over the past few years, Theorem of Joy has established itself as one of the most distinctive ensembles on the contemporary jazz scene. Following two critically acclaimed albums—Theorem of Joy (2018) and L’Hiver (2021)—and the ambitious photo-concert project Dysnomia Live (2022), created in collaboration with photographer Alexandre Dupeyron, the quintet returned to the stage with a major tour across China in autumn 2024.
Founded in 2017 by composer and double bassist Thomas Julienne, Theorem of Joy continues to push boundaries with a bold and poetic vision of jazz.
Entitled Feux (Fires), this new album offers both a perspective on the world and an introspective journey. Fire—at once destructive and regenerative—is the central symbol, embodying the paradoxes that define our time and our inner lives. Through nine original compositions, Feux traces an emotional and sonic topography where each note reflects the uncertainties, hopes, and transformations of our era.
Drawing inspiration from the melismatic traditions of Indian and Middle Eastern music, classical harmonies, post-rock textures, and electronic atmospheres, Theorem of Joy crafts a sound that is at once organic, conceptual, and deeply accessible. This multilingual sonic universe invites open listening, offering a renewed connection between music and contemplation.
