ThinLine Sid

ThinLine Sid is a Canadian Indie Rock project with big guitar sound, powerful soulful vocals, and driving, tight rhythm. Hailing from St. Albert, Alberta, ThinLine Sid was founded in 2011 by guitarist Doug Atkinson and bassist Craig Baker. Jamming buddies through high school, Baker and Atkinson are both seasoned rock players originating from Edmonton’s hard rock band Shot in the Dark in the 1980’s.

The band ended abruptly, and over the next 20 years Doug played a little country rock, Craig a little bluegrass, and in 2006 they found themselves together again in a Shot in the Dark reunion project. In 2011 Doug and Craig decided to create ThinLine Sid, and produce the album they had talked about since high school.

The vision was to be a guitar based rock band, writing about real world events as seen through experienced eyes. They set out to develop a sound that was unique, with bluesy hooks and heavy grooves, and specifically wanted vocals that were R&B influenced, and were unique to their sound.

Their search for this vocalist found Donovan Weihmann, a folk, blues R&B influenced artist. Donovan jumped into the project with his unique tone, and they hit the studio to lay down the album tracks.

The ThinLine Sid project reached out to Vancouver’s multiple Juno nominee Sheldon Zaharko (Zed Productions) to co-produce, mix & engineer the band’s 3 albums, and 3-time CCMA award winning drummer Chad Melchert was brought on board to lay down the drum tracks.
