Tholly´s Sacred Blues Band is an Icelandic gospel blues band founded in 2003 by the band´s singer and leader Tholly Rosmunds. From the beginning the band has been actively participating in the Icelandic blues scene, playing at the blues festivals held in the country and has held a lot of concerts.
In 2014 the legendary guitar player Fridrik Karlsson joined the band. Fridrik lived in London from 1996 -2013 and has been involved in various projects including guitar work on the movie Evita ( featuring Madonna ) the musicals: Jesus Christ Superstar and Saturday Night Fever. His TV work includes accompanying world famous singers and artists, such as Madonna, Jose Carreras and Tom Jones and Fridrik was also residence guitarist for the TV show X-factor ( hosted by Simon Cowell ). Concerts include Jesus Christ Superstar Stadium tour 2012 and Kate Bush "Before the Dawn" concerts in Hammersmith Odeon in 2014.
Fridrik plays the lead guitar plus producing the album Sacred Blues that was originally released in 2018. The album features a variety of music styles from blues rock to rockabilly, and funk to traditional black gospel, with the blues always being the undertone. Five songs/ lyrics are written by Tholly ( Every now and then, We all have the blues from time to time, Ain´t got no place, Ain´t doing too bad and Why do I have to? ( Mr. Abuse )), one song is written by Fridrik ( I get up ) and one song is written by the rhythm guitar player/ singer Siggi Ingimars ( Oh, Lord ).
