As a musician, composer and singer/songwriter in South Florida, Thomas Glenn Smith has a passion for the guitar in all its forms, guises and possibilities. Tom writes and sings folk/Americana songs while playing guitar, banjo and harmonica. Tom also specializes in Native American flute.
Born near Pittsburgh, Pa., Tom comes from a family of pioneers who settled in the deepest parts of the Allegheny Mountains. Coal miners and farmers who listened to old time country, gospel hymns and bluegrass pickin'.
His early exposure to Bob Dylan, John Prine, John Hartford, Neil Young and the Beatles inspired him to pursue a life in music.
After attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, that included studies of film music composition and guitar, Tom received a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Arts in Music from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fl. in classical guitar performance. Tom notes, "studying guitar and music with Dr. Ken Keaton was a great privilege and his teachings were beneficial beyond words and I am eternally grateful".
Tom has performed on TV, Radio and throughout South Florida and along the East Coast in shows, clubs and formal recitals.
Returning to his roots, his new cd, Keep Up The Good Work, explores the full range of the folk and Americana genre including spirituals, bluegrass/country, blues, Native American and whimsical views of life.
