The Thomas Lossius Septett is an ambitious acoustic jazz band founded in 2018, with a vision of ecstatic, yet meticulous music in extension of the hard bop-tradition.
Their debut album, Seven Words for Ekstasia is characterised by afrocentric rhythms, sophisticated harmony, memorable melodies, uncompromising compositions and textual themes from Christian mysticism. The musicians have released dozens of albums, and studied music at prestigious universities in Norway, the United States, South Africa and Switzerland.
The band draws influences from Alice Coltrane’s esoteric soundscapes, Art Blakey’s structured forms, the interplay of Miles Davis’ second quintet, as well as contemporary South African jazz like Ndabo Zulu, The Unity Band and Bokani Dyer.
We consist of:
Ørjan Hammer Vollvik - Trumpet
Andri Schärli - Tenor saxophone, Clarinet
Roar Berntsen - Guitar
Eivind Austad - Piano
Thomas Lossius - Double bass, Compositions
Audun Humberset - Percussion
Amund Nordstrøm - Drums
