Thomas Schroyer started playing music in the early 90s when he became intrigued by the rhythms of world music. Travels and studies in world percussion took him to India and the Middle East which deeply influenced his tribal trance music on stages, and in film and theater. But when a virus took most of his hearing in 2001, he transitioned to performing silent theater continuing to use music as a catalyst for his work. All changed in 2018 with he discovered a UFO like steel percussion xylophone in which he could finally hear through its resonating tones and continue to explore theater through the visual dynamics of the instrument.
Thomas was the music director for “Theater of the Invisible”, creating live original compositions for three seasons and his music has been featured on travel films, and has played in venues such as Portland Art Museum, Portland State University, Oregon Country Faire, Beloved Festival, Breitenbush Retreat Center, and yoga studios up and down the west coast.
Thomas now devotes the majority of his time to his handpan and frame drums. His vision is to take the listener to another world using eastern tunings and intoxicating trance rhythms.
