Born during an inactive period for Caleb Moeller and Winston Whitford’s first band, No Alignment, due to half the members living two hours away for school, Thrown Over began as an experimental writing exercise for the duo. While primarily a vocalist, Caleb had been playing and writing on guitar for a few years at this point, and with the help of Winston’s years of experience on guitar and interest in drums, songs began to form naturally between the two. It would take just under two years from their first release as Thrown Over, but together they would self record and produce their debut album, A Window into Limbo.

A Window into Limbo tries to blend the genres of alternative indie rock and post-punk revival that they were familiar with and was prevalent in the sound of No Alignment, with the sounds found in modern day shoegaze, slowcore, and post-rock artists. Newer bands, such as Have A Nice Life and Black Country, New Road would play a heavy influence in the band’s song writing style and lo-fi production, with 90’s era bands like The Microphones and Slint being influential to Thrown Over’s sound as well. A Window into Limbo’s lyrical themes touch on what life is like for the youth of midwestern America, with the comforts of late night drives, airplane watching, and cozy, snow covered winters contrasting the harsh sense of isolation, seasonal depression, substance abuse, grief, and expectations of becoming an adult.
