Time Zones is the dance music project of Dan Gentile and Jack Murphy. The two began making music together in 2014 while living in Austin, Texas. Their work is rooted in the appreciation of soulful house music and dollar bin disco singles.
Dan has DJed for 20 years, performing with the Austin-based crew Flying Turns before moving to San Francisco in 2019. He works as a journalist and writes about music for outlets like VICE and Wax Poetics in order to fund a mild modular synthesizer habit. Jack’s musical background is playing bass and piano in free jazz scenarios, funk jam sessions, and a psych rock band. By day he is a designer and writer, and currently lives in Brooklyn.
In 2019, Time Zones released "Vibe Shack" on Mystery Zone Records and sold out a run of 300 vinyl copies. "Vibe Shack" was followed up by several digital singles and the "Do You Like House Music" EP, as well as tracks featured on compilations by Bay Area Disco and Fault Radio. Their newest release, "Tricoastal," takes inspiration from the sampling style of the Avalanches, house music muscle of Andres, and synthesizer noodling of Floating Points.
