To Kill a Petty Bourgeoisie

Last updated: 7 hours ago

Mixing an equally lovely and unsettling amount of dreamy pop and industrial noise, To Kill a Petty Bourgeoisie features guitarist/vocalist Jehna Wilhelm and electronics/sound manipulator Mark McGee. The Minneapolis, MN-via-Richmond, VA residents began making music together around 2003, working with a revolving cast of supporting musicians. They founded their own label, the Riley Bushman Recordings & Archives, to release their own music and collaborations with like-minded artists, including split singles with Virginia bands Harm Stryker and Cristal. To Kill a Petty Bourgeoisie signed with Kranky Records and issued their first full-length, The Patron, a concept album about a love story between two merging corporations, in fall 2007. The following year, the band released the Retire Early EP on their own imprint. For their second Kranky release, 2009's Marlone, the group moved in a more streamlined, dynamic direction, trading some of their earlier atmosphere for louder guitars and more pop structure. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
