Tobax (Alexej Strokow) represents the mid‑generation of drum & bass artists, with a primary focus on the neurofunk substyle, while his early discography also explored Liquid and Jump Up.
His musical path began in childhood. Coming home from school, he would drop his backpack at the door and immediately immerse himself in sound, recording ideas on a cassette tape recorder. Using a drum machine paired with a guitar processor, he played simple electric guitar riffs, learning how rhythm, distortion, and texture interact. Influenced by rock music with distorted guitars and a deep love for cinema, these early experiments shaped his artistic worldview.
After starting his career as a producer in 2010 in Samara, Russia, Tobax spent several years refining his sound before gaining recognition within the drum & bass scene. This dedication led to support from artists such as Noisia, Black Sun Empire, Ed Rush, Pendulum, A.M.C., Mefjus, Phace, and others.
He has performed at major drum & bass festivals including Let It Roll, Rampage, Pirate Station, as well as numerous club and open-air events. Tobax’s sound combines cinematic sci‑fi atmospheres, epic intros, and direct neurofunk dance energy.
The producer currently lives in Dresden, Germany.
