b. Tokyo, Japan. She studied classical violin at Tokyo’s Kunitachi School of Music but listening to the country music on the AFN network saw her interests change to that genre. In the late 60s, she played for US servicemen in the Far East and Vietnam as well as to US bases in Italy and England. She relocated to America, where she has played on the Wheeling Jamboree and acted as opening act and toured with several major artists, including Faron Young, Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette. She appeared on the Grand Ole Opry, where her fiddle playing won her many new friends. In her stage act, she also proved to be a fine yodeller, while her vocals with her lilting, if limited, English, as demonstrated on her popular rendition of ‘Locky Top’, proved gently amusing but pleasantly listenable. She proved a big hit at the 1987 Wembley Festival in London, particularly with a dazzling rendition of the ‘Orange Blossom Special’. She married and settled to raise a family in Nashville.
