“Lil Fucker” is the debut release from Hull-raised, London-based songwriter and artist Tom Atkin. Combining hazy guitars with dusty trap-leaning beats, his unmistakable vocal delivers a scathing narrative that playfully toys with the crushing lows of modern life.
With a past as the frontman of indie-punk pioneers The Paddingtons, “Lil Fucker” is the innately matured and natural chronology for his one-of-a-kind songwriting. The gritty, brutally honest storytelling of his past has pensively evolved, with the adolescent swagger replaced by stoic confidence. Co-written and produced by London-based South-American artist Attawalpa, the single, along with the forthcoming debut project of the same name, were almost lost on an old hard drive until lockdown brought them back into fruition when Tom was considering his creative output.
Citing timeless influences from idols of the rose-tinted past up to the modern-day, from the likes of Bob Dylan, Pixies, Modern Lovers, Richard Hell and Pavement to The Strokes, The Cribs and lil Peep, Post Malone, Tom shares the same trendless approach, crafting a sound distinctly his own. Leaving the stage behind to become a father, the call of the spotlight refused to wane, with the presence of his daughter merely fanning the flames of the fire within his belly.
“Lil Fucker” is the opening salvo of said debut project and performs as an overture for what’s to come.
