Toneking is a long‑running minimal techno and electronica project by Mijk Van Dijk tied to the Liquid Sky Berlin artist family, first surfacing in the mid‑90s with the EP Micheline Tracks on Japanese label Cyberfugu, whose track “Pneu” became a chart hit in Belgium and later issued as a 12" on Belgian imprint Clockwork Recordings in 2000, followed by a dedicated Pneu (Remixes) EP and multiple vinyl pressings that firmly connect the track to the Benelux club‑techno era.
Across those releases “Pneu” was reworked by Insider, HouseTrap, Marco Bailey vs Redhead and Zzino vs Accelerator.
In 2012 Toneking contributed the 11‑minute track “The 808 Buddha” as track three on the compilation Liquid Sky Berlin, Vol. 1 (The Mothership Has Landed), released by Blim Rec Paris as the first Liquid Sky Berlin label showcase and sharing space with artists such as Jette von Roth, Omsk Information, Dr Walker and Souki with the album distributed worldwide.
Toneking occupies a classic cult‑techno niche where multi‑label backing, cross‑platform digital availability and long‑tail collector interest all line up.
