Tony John

Growing up in rural, Northern Illinois, though now residing in southeast Wisconsin, Tony John is an artist of eclectic influence. He cut his teeth in a metal band <a href="spotify:artist:1GLCYRJMxNJvDPMULsMWzW" data-name="Apotheosis">Apotheosis</a> and made the transition into traditional American music. Influenced by the likes of <a href="spotify:artist:5W5bDNCqJ1jbCgTxDD0Cb3" data-name="Willie Nelson">Willie Nelson</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3ZWab2LEVkNKiBPIClTwof" data-name="Townes Van Zandt">Townes Van Zandt</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1RP2UpEaRzkF0Id3JigqD8" data-name="Roger Miller">Roger Miller</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1FClsNYBUoNFtGgzeG74dW" data-name="Hank Williams">Hank Williams</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3qf2YoifC68WTsMv1YIGmh" data-name="Hank Williams III">Hank Williams III</a>, etc. He makes an odd mix of traditonal country, folk, and bluegrass, with the influences of his past in the Chicago metal scene. With harsher influences consisting of <a href="spotify:artist:0ybFZ2Ab08V8hueghSXm6E" data-name="Opeth">Opeth</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2Mz5qpR3WxbcBwZBsmraWE" data-name="Panopticon">Panopticon</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6bYFkBNvayh3nGqxcPp7Sv" data-name="Ulver">Ulver</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2Y1gQP3Mkmogngm9BJI5Jh" data-name="Musk Ox">Musk Ox</a>, etc. The early material was laden with blackened tones and a somber atmosphere, all produced as a one man project with session musicians. He later graduated, on the newest release <a href="spotify:album:2lugFIxts3Fx02NbpxT7iy" data-name="Antlers In The Snow">Antlers In The Snow</a> to recording live with his backing band the flatland string band.
