So i started in my teens as a jingle writer for a local radio station, contributed bass and vocals to an 80's band called HORIZONTAL BRIAN, became a sound engineer, then finally found a degree of success specializing as a mixing engineer . Later, this morphed in to writing “Music” for many TV shows and a few movies here and there.
Over the years i’ve learned many things about the entertainment business;
“The director loves it” means they haven’t played it for him/her yet,
“We’re taking it in a different direction” means you’re fired,
“There’s no more in the budget” means there’s no more in the budget FOR YOU and
“You’re a genius” means you probably won’t get paid at all.
Regardless of what i should have been doing while engaged in those jobs, i would occasionally feel the urge to write a song - although it would rarely be finished within the same decade as it began.
So here i am now, fifty years later and regularly being fed phrases like “Twilight years” and “Senior discount” and thinking that maybe now would be a good time to bow out of the business (not so gracefully) by gathering together all these bits and pieces of long-neglected songs and finally attempt the one thing i’ve never tackled…… my own album.
Some are re-worked versions of songs i’d written for Horizontal Brian, some were written specifically for movies that were ultimately rejected and some are just lonely little songs without a home.
Hope you get a grin or two out of them.
