One night in 2021, guitarist Finn Severstad saw a strange flash of light coming from outside their bedroom window. They went to the backyard to find an alien escape pod, and nestled inside was a cream-colored wheel of cheese. Finn brought this wheel to drummer Aidan Lishner, who cut a triangular slice out of the wheel, declaring: “This parmesan… IS TOO MUCH!” A flash of lightning struck overhead and the two felt a rush of musical creativity and innovation stirring within.
But like any heist, they needed help. The muscle came from Logan Green, a guitarist renowned worldwide. Also recruited were keyboarder Kali Nelson, other member Carter Epley, and no bassist for some reason. They named their band after Finn and Aidan's fateful encounter and the rest is history.
Their first EP Blood Orange was released in 2022, featuring the legendary track "Suspicious Sandwich". Millions wept openly for several minutes when it was first played live. The next two years, they made singles to hide the lack of progress on their first LP, Apocalypse Hippopotamus. Still, it inevitably released September 2024 to lukewarm reviews. Then, the band spontaneously chose to follow in the footsteps of their idols Weezer and make a Christmas album. Jesus Christ's 2024th Birthday Extravaganza! released to critical acclaim, pushing the boundaries of the holiday genre further than was perhaps appropriate.
