Toya K is a genre-blending artist whose music fuses Amapiano, Afro-fusion,R&B and Jazz creating a sound that is as dynamic as her journey.
Born in Windhoek and raised in the serene village of Grashoek, nestled within the rural Tsumkwe constituency of Namibia, she was immersed in a rich musical culture from an early age.
Growing up in a predominantly Ju/’hoansi San community, where singing and dancing were integral parts of life,Toya developed an innate connection to rhythm and storytelling.
Her passion for music flourished through school choirs and talent shows in Grootfontein, where she honed her voice a voice that is not only versatile but deeply emotive, allowing her to channel raw soulfulness into every genre she explores.
Toya’s sound is ever-evolving, shaped by different influences as she navigates the phases of her life.
Among the artists who have profoundly impacted her, Nina Simone stands out, particularly with the song ”Blackbird”, which helped her embrace her identity as a Black woman, artist, and activist in the most empowering way.
She officially stepped into the music scene with her debut single “ON TIME” in February 2022, marking the beginning of a journey that continues to break boundaries.
Today, Toya K is a Paris based force redefining African music on a global scale bridging cultures, challenging narratives, and using her art as a vessel for empowerment and connection.
