A recovering accountant, an amateur historian and dilettante litterateur, an extremely lazy birdwatcher, a 'musician' who claims to have no interest in music beyond one single song of Bob Dylan's, Traitor is a man possessed of a singular quality of mind who just happens to be very interested in writing some of the most memorable songs you will ever hear.
Whether it's the post-sacred intensity of 'Raphael', the dreamscape imagery of 'Nostalgia', the gut-purging explosivity of 'White Whale', or the Old Testament brain-haemorrhaging of 'Waiting for a God', the songs of Traitor stick in the mind like those of few other artists.
To date, the fullest expression of this distinctive approach to song form and performance is the album 'Nostalgia for a Wound', which was released in the autumn of 2020. Taking its title from a line in Traitor's diary, this record is a fading monument to the past, and has been hailed by many who have heard it to be something of a masterpiece. When asked what the album is about, Traitor will only answer, "It's about debt."
Since 2020, Traitor has devoted himself to the completion of his trilogy of records, 'The Novelty of Memory', of which 'Nostalgia for a Wound' is the first volume. The second volume, 'Brother to the Ox', is expected to be released by the end of 2024. The third and final volume, 'The Enclosure of the Commons', will follow sometime in the post-industrial age.
