Tre Cross is a rapper and lyricist, with an uncanny ability to create melodies, hooks, and stories to pretty much any beat. Tre’s honesty and soul-searching lyrics provoke self-reflection and entice listeners to not only enjoy music, but to learn about themselves and their motivations while listening to his catalogue.
Tre has been an avid fan of rap since childhood, citing Hip Hop as a foundational element of his youth. “Before first grade I was reciting every word of 50 cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ album. I probably couldn’t have counted high enough to tell someone how many Jay-Z songs I had memorized.” Soon after his 7th birthday, he began dabbling in writing lyrics.
Tre has kept busy playing division one basketball, which has maintained priority over music for many years. He is also an alumnus of Dartmouth and a current masters degree candidate at Azusa Pacific. However, Tre has decided to pursue his passions in music more rigorously as of late, citing his faith walk as a reason for the shift in precedence.
“As I’ve gotten older and faith has become more important in my life, I’ve consistently been forced to choose between two types of rap. There is mainstream hip-hop, which I love, but can sometimes influence my mindset in a way that pulls me away from who I want to be. Then there is Christian rap, which honestly isn’t my favorite and generally feels disconnected from what people actually experience daily. I intend to fill that gap.”
