Trees and Timber began in 2010 when Gwen decided she wanted to play bass and write songs with Joe. They then recorded their first song, Eskimo Sun, as a 5-piece called Hi-Fido. They changed their name because they wanted to be called Trees and Timber, and also realized that 5 was too many and that 4 would be better. They played some shows and decided that 3 was a better number and went with that. In 2012, they recorded an EP titled Electric Gypsy Lovechild, after which they decided 2 people was probably good, but changed their minds when they met Paul. In 2014, Trees and Timber released their debut LP, Hello My Name is Love, which people heard because Swoon Records released it. In 2018, they experimented with being a band with zero members, and work on the album slowed. In 2021, they finally got around to adding themselves back into the band, then went back to work on the next album. When finished, they consulted with Jeff at Swoon who agreed that releasing it was a good idea.
