TT. Elzinga

Faint glimpses of lavish street sceneries, macabre backroom activities, a police station, and spit-shined convertible vehicles. TT Elzinga pens songs with a haphazard swagger: they all play out like random scenes of floundering inner-city escapades, unwieldy liaisons and late-night dive bar collapses.

Like the great Nick Lowe, Elzinga possesses the gift of being almost accidentally suave and cool: no matter how much misfortune candidly seeps into his songs, Elzinga dusts himself off and continues strutting onward as if nothing ever happened.

Sonically, TT Elzinga awakens sensibilities from myriad artists and bands, without any of them being cast-iron. The Bohemian folk rock sounds of The Cairo Gang, the resplendent country-rock ramblings of Tom Petty, the brooding artistry of Elliott Smith and the knee-jerk whimsy of Pavement are but a handful of touchstones that come to mind when listening to Parlour Girls. Elzinga has a special way of bending and reconfiguring these familiar sounds to serve his own idiosyncrasies.
