Tuatara is an instrumental supergroup that was part of a movement in the late 1990s that was infused with instrumental, jazz oriented music that included electronic, ambient, and other forms of world music. Founded by drummer/composer Barrett Martin, bassist/composer Justin Harwood, guitarist/composer Peter Buck, and saxophonist/composer Skerik, the quartet would later expand to include upwards of 10 additional musicians for their studio sessions and occasional live shows. Collaborating with numerous singer-songwriters, poets, and DJs over the years, the band wrote over 100 compositions between its debut in 1996 and its conclusion in 2014, making a total of 7 studio albums and 1 live album. Although the band was in high demand as a touring act, the various band member's busy schedules only allowed the group to tour occasionally, becoming more of a studio band in the process.
