Founded on DIY indie principles and influenced by bands like <a href="spotify:artist:3inCNiUr4R6XQ3W43s9Aqi" data-name="Pavement">Pavement</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3Rj0tDHoX7C5NFq5DKIpHt" data-name="Stereolab">Stereolab</a>, and the Merge Records label, <a href="spotify:artist:0x7chirrm7Hwd2N2XUadBN" data-name="Turnstyle">Turnstyle</a> is an Australian indie-rock band formed in 1995. Known for incorporating 80s Casio (Casiotone) keyboards and vintage synthesizers into their melody-driven, guitar-based music, the band also drew inspiration from English post-punk.
By 1997, <a href="spotify:artist:0x7chirrm7Hwd2N2XUadBN" data-name="Turnstyle">Turnstyle</a> had gained recognition on local line-ups. In 1998, they embarked on their first Australian tour and appeared on ABC&#39;s Recovery. Following line-up changes, they wrote 30 songs in 6 months and self-funded their debut album Turnstyle Country (1998/99) before signing with Spunk! Records. Their single <a href="spotify:track:0pn2DaVFnsuNP5pC4dPtEQ" data-name="Spray Water On The Stereo">Spray Water On The Stereo</a> received airplay and TV coverage, leading to tours with <a href="spotify:artist:1YFIyRFTa7povIpq08DcCA" data-name="Trans Am">Trans Am</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4oV5EVJ0XFWsJKoOvdRPvl" data-name="Guided By Voices">Guided By Voices</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:5hAhrnb0Ch4ODwWu4tsbpi" data-name="Yo La Tengo">Yo La Tengo</a>.

In 2001, they released Turnstyle Corporation before going on an 8-year hiatus. They reunited in 2010 &amp; 2013, with all 4 original members, &amp; released Time Equals Function in 2015, mixed &amp; mastered by Andy Ramsay of <a href="spotify:artist:3Rj0tDHoX7C5NFq5DKIpHt" data-name="Stereolab">Stereolab</a>, followed by Happy Factories in 2018. In 2020, their creative process was recognised by the Western Australian Museum, which featured a mock-up of their Casio keyboard rig. In 2023, they released their fifth studio album, Citizens’ Handbook. In 2024, Turnstyle released a revisited version of the their 2001 album - Turnstyle Corporation.
Turnstyle continues to perform, sharing stages with <a href="spotify:artist:2Sp19cOHSqAUlE64hekARW" data-name="Teenage Fanclub">Teenage Fanclub</a> Teenage Fanclub, Shonen Knife, Regurgitator, Custard, and Superchunk.
