Type Face is a searching visual art and alternative music project. Informed by the genre-shrugging advance guard of Dublin's DIY scene, as well as a diverse array of musical touchstones stretching back through time, Type Face can be interpreted as the fruit and sum of a wide and ongoing musical education.
The solace and still of traditional sean-nós song, the proud weight of alternative rock, the weightlessness of improvised jazz, the numbing hypnosis of techno, and the bare vulnerability of spoken-word have all served as grist to the Type Face mill.
Early fruits from these experiments include Circling Away and Imbolc, the start of a long-standing collaboration with Nagam, and coverage in institutional Irish media such as Hot Press Magazine, Nialler9, and RTE2FM. The Type Face project also contains a key visual and live element; in the summer of 2022, it was brought to sold-out shows in the classic underground venues across Dublin with the Liffey Swimmers Ensemble.
Halcyon Senegalensis and Nagadáin Glasa/Green Fools, audiovisual releases, examine cultural and mythological crossroads. Awash with saxophone lines, bold lyricism, and more accessible production, these songs have established a new and concrete direction for the project and have been recognised through noteworthy international playlists Jazz UK, Serotonin, and New Music Friday UK.
