A small town boy born and raised on Vancouver Island, British Columbia made his way to the city as soon as he could to start his musical journey with a love for the intensity of deep progressive rock and metal in his heart and hands. After some years collaborating with others on several projects, including his own band Sonderous, the global pandemic of 2020 wrought much destruction and delays on these respective projects and their momentum. While lying in wait for a return to normalcy and for the return of hope for loud bands eager to tour, he sat in isolation and had much time to reflect and to process a great sense of loss. The loss of time, the loss of relationships, the loss of hope and certainty. The Fairweather Farewell EP, Tyrell’s debut solo release, is an essential catharsis and artistic processing of these times of despair and reflection. While Tyrell’s other musical endeavors often get quite methodical and progressive, not to mention aggressive and quite metallic, this project has a more personal, “straight-to-the-feels” approach but certainly doesn’t lack in power. The three songs are chalked full of interesting guitar work, heartfelt lyricism and some tasteful vocal delivery.
