U-neek is a Filipino Indie Pop artist currently based in Japan. Hailing from a musical family, it was only natural for U-neek to emerge as an artist herself. The only child of Philippine’s Hip-hop royalty Dice and Hi-C, (notably from Mobbstarr), is keen on following her parents’ footsteps in music.
Her artistry started with reading and writing poetry which inevitably led to songwriting. Drawing inspiration from musicals and artists such as Honne, Sigrid, Troye Sivan; her music is a sweet combination of Synth Pop and Contemporary R&B, a far cry from how her parents started. When asked about choosing this route, she explains, “I am very proud of my parents’ legacy, but it’s important that I also do what I love and make my mark.”
U-neek’s first single “Free Falling” is a reflection of that. A danceable upbeat music with evocative synths; contrasted by lyrics about youthful feelings of emptiness and bits of mania. With such a powerhouse of material that she works on, we can surely expect she is bound to hit everyone’s musical radar.
