Composer & multi-instrumentalist 'uah' (aka Usman Haque), seamlessly connects the worlds of architecture and music. An accomplished interactive artist, he has created participatory audio-visual spectacles for the Singapore Biennale, the Dubai World Cup, London Fashion Week and Toronto's Nuit Blanche. But his musical journey sprang from tinkering on a piano as a child growing up in Washington DC, and mangling the family tape recorder.
His compositions fuse the experimental and the familiar, driven by influences as broad as Congolese Mass, Japanese noise and 60s Cuban cinema. uah explores intense emotional narratives to create cinematic, symphonic and dramatic landscapes of sound, using a maximalist approach that combines voice with digital, analog and acoustic instruments. He is currently experimenting with ways to engage members of the public using their own voices to drive collective experiences, including scoring artist Ling Tan's SUPERMOMENTS. The piece sees performers in public space employing vocal techniques from protest culture and carrying loudspeakers as they weave unpredictably through the crowds.
Now based in London, uah has released several EPs and singles over the last few years and his debut album, Let Death Live dropped in 2022, exploring the cycles of life & death, grief & joy, loss & acceptance.
