My first memory of doing anything musical was using my dad's tennis racket to pretend I was a rock guitarist in front of the TV. It was Bryan Adams's "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You." I was maybe 4 or 5 years old. It was in the living room area in our first house close to Osisioma Junction in Aba, Abia State. I know. Who remembers things from when they were 4 or 5? I do.
I remember my first crush & my first heartbreak. I remember the first time I said "I think we should break up." I will never forget the remember the last time I said "I think we should break up."
I remember the first time I truly felt guilt and the first time I felt schadenfreude–both were after church. I also remember the last time I truly felt something in church. I remember my first time dealing with grief, as well as the last time I thought I'd be the one gone.
Music is how I make sense of my memories and paint pictures that I can revisit in the present continuous. I’m still learning how to use music to say anything about the future. But maybe that’s cause I think the future is overrated.
There's so much more to say...
