UMBRA was formed by a passion for early and traditional music, weaving together improvisation and original arrangements. Nurturing a unique sound evolving from a combination of period and traditional instruments, including rich vocal harmonies, the group seeks to blur the boundaries of tradition. Their albums Out of Darkness, Solstitium and Llibre Vermell have all been critically acclaimed, garnering nominations and awards for Album of the Year award at the Icelandic Music Awards. UMBRA's newest album BJARGRÚNIR, out May 2022, features Icelandic traditional folk music and ancient texts placed in a completely new soundscape with a pervasive dark overtone and chilling vocal harmonies.
