In the late night haze of a Parisian nightclub in 2013, Zach Gray and Edo Van Breemen’s concept for Unalaska was conceived. Inspired from their time spent working together on the indie cult vampire film Afflicted, the two musicians wrote a record pulling from cinematic film scores, indie pop and alternative sounds and the progressive sensibilities of Aughties rock bands like Doves, Radiohead and Starsailor.

Their 2015 EP garnered critical acclaim from Noisey, Stereogum and Clash.

However, following the release, the two musicians found their other projects demanding more of their attention. Zach Gray’s indie rock band The Zolas’ released their album Swooner which gained the band a Juno nomination. Edo Van Breemen found further success with film composition . The band’s unreleased recordings were consigned to live on a hard drive for the next 10 years.

The songs are brimming with energy and swagger. Influences from 2000’s electronic music, the sweeping aesthetics of Hanz Zimmer and enigmatic lyricism pull the listener into songs that have maintained vitality and excitement.

Like a well-preserved bottle of Pernod Fils absinthe, pulled from the dusty cellar of the French night club the two musicians first conspired in, the music yields rich texture, mystery and intrigue. Like Dracula waking from his rest “My revenge is just begun! I spread it over centuries, and time is on my side.”
