Multi-instrumentalist Cody Brougham decided it was time to release music after narrowly escaping a house fire in 2020 from those flames saw the birth of Underlay a project that creator Cody self-proclaims as ‘nervous pop’, with a mix of jangly guitars and analogue synths his sound takes influences from Smith Westerns , The Strokes, Beach Fossils and Girls. Underlay’s live shows brings a DIY energy and sound underpinned with dry humour. Having supported the likes of Vacations, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers and Johnny Hunter as well as headline shows across Australia Underlay caught the attention of management agency Handshake MGMT where he has joined a roster the includes globally successful artists including Alex Lahey, Vacations and L-Fresh The Lion. Off the back of this signing and the strength of the songs Nettwerk Music quickly stepped in and signed Underlay with his first music with label due for release in December 2022.
