Unfoonk is an Atlanta, Georgia hip-hop artist with an expressive, heartfelt vocal style who began his career in late 2019. Born Quintavious Grier in the mid-'80s, he grew up in a household that clearly valued music, and this inspired his younger brother to establish a successful career as <a href="spotify:artist:50co4Is1HCEo8bhOyUWKpn">Young Thug</a> in the 2010s and found the label <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22YSL+Records%22">YSL Records</a>. When Unfoonk emerged from jail in October 2019, earlier than expected after being handed a life sentence in prison, he credited <a href="spotify:artist:50co4Is1HCEo8bhOyUWKpn">Young Thug</a> for inspiring him to get his life back on track. Within a couple of months, he'd released a debut album, On the Way, and he went on to issue numerous singles on <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22YSL%22">YSL</a> in 2020. The pick of these was "MOB Ties," a collaborative effort with <a href="spotify:artist:23mJPosA4Qmp8kc6IlWalb">24Heavy</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:09XX4vGibhdivyKlxP8MRf">Slimelife Shawty</a>, which started to turn heads. It was eventually featured on 11 Years No Tears, his sophomore album and first long-player for <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22YSL%22">YSL</a>. April 2021 brought a significant boost to his profile when he contributed to "Real" -- along with five other tracks -- to Slime Language 2, a <a href="spotify:artist:50co4Is1HCEo8bhOyUWKpn">Young Thug</a>- and <a href="spotify:artist:2hlmm7s2ICUX0LVIhVFlZQ">Gunna</a>-curated compilation album which shot to number one in the U.S. Capitalizing on this exposure, he released the mixtape My Struggle in June, a set which featured guest appearances from <a href="spotify:artist:1bqJuNMz1iBqWo9B0BdIiM">FN DaDealer</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:06Qf6vq8AVIpE9XIw8LAsY">Lil Duke</a>. ~ James Wilkinson, Rovi
