Rules are the enemy to creativity.
Untrust Us is on a mission to deny the paths laid out before him and take on sound in his own way. Untrust Us is creating accessible but still completely genuine music. His music is multi-layered and ambitious, taking listeners to the same space that he lives in everyday. He creates in a way that is difficult to define, and that’s exactly how he wants it.
Justin Lillard, Untrust Us, has always came from a strong and diverse music background, however, his gear towards electronic music began, once he was fully introduced to dance music. Little by little, music was becoming more and more important in his life. Justin began opening his tastes to all varieties of electronic music. The Untrust Us sound developed by taking inspiration from listening to artists like ARCA, Flume, Crystal Castles, Burial, 0PN, Shlohmo, SOPHIE and Lorn. Justin began experimenting with music more in the dubstep and bass genre, but would find himself easily distracted due to messing around with other genres. He wasn’t completely sure what he truly wanted to make, which in the end, helped become so versatile in the sound that he found for himself.
