uSanele is an elusive South African musician best known as Boyz n Bucks co-founder and Spovagang affiliate.
His distinctive style is best described as a take on traditional music; borrowing harmonies and melodies from iSicathamiya juxtaposed with a hip hop influence.
He describes his music as being “Dubane inspired” – when asked why the Durban born artist says it’s an ode to his hometown and childhood. His belief is that art should not only invoke emotion but should also tell a personal story – as he attempts to do through his music.
With a growing following and refreshing sound, in January of 2020 uSanele dropped ‘uMvelase’ which honours his family name and roots in the heart of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. From a young age, uSanele knew that he wanted to be an artist. Having spent many years mastering his craft he officially came onto the SA music scene as a solo artist with the release of his debut single ‘Zengenkani’ a street anthem of note, later followed by ’Amabhodlela’ with an iconic music video which features long time collaborators and friends.
Since releasing his ‘Gangular’ EP in early 2019, uSanele has spent the past year honing further developing his sound and redefining himself as an artist, as he continues to push boundaries in terms of what SA hip hop is and should be.
