Ustad Akhtar Sharif Aroop Wale was a master in the Doaba style of Sufi Qawwali.
As one of the foremost disciples of Ustad Bakshi Salamat, he carried the traditional Qawwali genre with exceptional mastery of rhythmic improvisation ( Bol Bant ) and beautifully rendered Naats in Dadra ( 6 beat ).
Ustad Akhtar Sharif passed away in 2021, yet his brother Sabir Hussain & son Sarmad Khan continue to carry the family legacy.
His mastery is most lucidly seen in the Qawwali film series Music of the Mystics by Tahir Qawwal, which features his music as well as his profound words of Sufi wisdom.
